Neither your position in society, nor power, nor dignity, nor selfishness, nor even personal promotion should enslave you

About This Quote

When the quote, “Neither your position in society, nor power, nor dignity, nor selfishness, nor even personal promotion should enslave you” was first written by Martin Luther King Jr., it was directed at people who were trying to avoid responsibility. They were saying that they shouldn’t have to accept responsibility for the things that might happen because of their position in society. But, now I think it is directed at people who are working hard to do good things for others but are being held back by the attitudes of other people. They feel that they should not be expected to do something that might damage their own career or status.
